The following is a statement from Democrat for Governor Jay Gonzalez on Governor Baker’s plan to seek federal authorization to implement his proposed cuts to the state Medicaid program.

“Given Governor Baker’s lack of urgency in addressing many of his budget challenges, it’s alarming the alacrity with which he’s moving to kick 140,000 low income residents off of Medicaid. His plan to ram through this major proposal before the public gets a chance to weigh in is indicative of the type of closed door, secretive style of governing that is the hallmark of his administration. The people impacted by this move deserve a chance to have their voices heard and Governor Baker should hold off on any further action until that has occurred.”
