In his campaign for governor, Jay Gonzalez made a quick stop at City Hall Plaza on Thursday, where he picked up support from nearly half of Boston’s City Council.
Councilors Lydia Edwards, Annissa Essaibi-George, Ed Flynn, Matt O’Malley, Kim Janey and Michelle Wu have endorsed Gonzalez, one of two Democrats looking to oust Republican Governor Charlie Baker.
“These are the leaders in Boston right now, and the leaders of the future,” Gonzalez said. “I look forward to being in the governor’s office and working with them to have an effect” on state residents.
Wu praised Gonzalez and took a shot at what she called Baker’s lack of progress on initiatives such as pay equity and transportation.
