Key Endorsements Leading into State Democratic Convention in Worcester
CAMBRIDGE – Today, Massachusetts Senate President Harriette Chandler and a group of Worcester County Democrats announced their endorsement of Jay Gonzalez in the 2018 Massachusetts gubernatorial race.
The group, led by Senate President Harriette L. Chandler, consists of State Senators Michael Moore and Anne Gobi, State Representatives James O’Day, John Mahoney, Daniel Donahue, and Mary Keefe, and Worcester City Councilors Candy F. Mero-Carlson, and Khrystian King, Sean Rose, Worcester School Committee Members Molly McCullough, and Dante Comparetto.
“Jay has the experience to lead, and I am proud to endorse his candidacy for Governor of Massachusetts. The whole world is watching the turbulence in Washington, and it has never been more important for Massachusetts to demonstrate progressive leadership. Jay will be that leader with his proven record and his commitment to opportunity, justice, and equality,” said Senate President Harriette L. Chandler (First Worcester).
“No other candidate for Governor brings as much experience to the table as Jay Gonzalez. As Secretary of Administration and Finance, Jay helped to steer the Commonwealth successfully through one of the toughest economic downturns in our history. He deeply cares about addressing the income gap here in Massachusetts to provide jobs to those in need and to ensure our middle class can continue to provide for their families. Jay recognizes that access to high-quality early education and care is one of the best long-term investments the Commonwealth can make for our future. From Boston to the Berkshires, Jay Gonzalez will be the Governor that brings our commonwealth together for a better tomorrow. I am proud to join my fellow Central Massachusetts Democrats in endorsing Jay Gonzalez for the next Governor of Massachusetts.” said Senator Michael Moore (Second Worcester).
“Supporting public education and making sure all students have the chance for success regardless of their zip code is something Jay Gonzalez and I agree on, and I want to partner with him to make that a reality,” said Senator Anne Gobi (Worcester, Hampden, Hampshire, and Middlesex).
“I am proud to join my colleagues in the Worcester delegation to endorse Jay Gonzalez for Governor. We stand behind his vision for Massachusetts and share his values on strong education, healthcare, and social justice,” said Representative James O’Day (14th Worcester).
“I’m endorsing Jay because he has the vision to take Massachusetts to the next level,” said Representative John Mahoney (13th Worcester).
“Jay Gonzalez is a champion for the working class and will fight for families on Beacon Hill. Jay shares our Massachusetts values, and I have been motivated by his passionate grassroots campaign. That’s why I am endorsing Jay for Governor,” said Representative Daniel Donahue (16th Worcester).
“I am excited to endorse Jay Gonzalez for Governor. Jay is a strong progressive leader, and that is exactly what we need to implement some of the progress we have made in the Legislature this session. We need to keep Massachusetts moving as a progressive state leading by example for our nation and Jay is the one to lead us,” said Representative Mary Keefe (15th Worcester).”
“I’m so proud to lend my support to Jay and his campaign for Governor,” stated State Representative Natalie Higgins of Leominster. “Jay genuinely cares about people and will offer real leadership. Our working families in Leominster are struggling to get ahead, and Jay understands the importance of affordable and accessible public higher education all across Massachusetts. I am excited to work with Jay to bring down the cost of public higher education and take on the student debt crisis,” stated State Representative Natalie Higgins (4th Worcester).
